An 65-year-old man was found unresponsive outside a vehicle in Ipswich early Tuesday morning.
The Ipswich man, whose name has not yet been released pending family notifications, was transported to Beverly Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, said Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker in a release.
The incident took place around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday in the vicinity of 33 Caroline Ave.
Neighbors told Boston 25 News the man was in only shorts and a t-shirt with bare feet.
“His face was all beat up, and it looked like his legs were cut up,” one neighbor said to Boston 25.
The incident is being investigated by Massachusetts State Police detectives with the Ipswich Police Department and the Massachusetts Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
