Two Brockton men were indicted Wednesday for an alleged staged bank robbery conspiracy, according to the United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts’s office.
The two men, brothers Jenel Flounoury, 29, and Justin Flounoury, 33, allegedly stole $197,146 from Energy Credit Union in West Roxbury — where one of them was employed as a teller, according to officials.
Jenel Flounoury allegedly arranged for a large cash deposit to be stored in a section of the vault that he could access, according to a statement from officials. He then allegedly arranged for his brother to stage a “robbery,” wherein Justin Flounoury would pass Jenel Flounoury a note demanding money, officials said.
During the robbery, Jenel Flounoury bypassed his teller cash drawer and went straight to the vault before loading the money into a bag, according to officials.
Investigators searched the Flounoury brothers’ residence on the night of the robbery and found over $160,000 in cash, including $100 bills whose serial numbers were recorded by Energy Credit Union employees as being present in the vault prior to the robbery.
According to court documents, location information for Justin Flounoury’s cellphone places it within .25 miles of the credit union at the time the robbery occurred.
