Police: Teen girl shot in head at Easton apartment complex

The 16-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries but was listed in stable condition on Wednesday.

Authorities are investigating the shooting of a 16-year-old girl Tuesday afternoon at an apartment complex in Easton.

Police said officers responded to the Avalon Easton Apartments on Roberts Drive around 2:30 p.m. to a 911 call reporting a shooting. At the scene, they found the teenager suffering from a gunshot would to her face. She was taken first to Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton and then transported by medical helicopter to a Boston hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

On Wednesday, police said the girl was in stable condition.

“While the investigation is active, investigators believe this was an isolated incident and that the victim and attacker(s) are known to each other,” police said on Wednesday. “Currently, the investigation has led to a substantial collection of evidence, including the seizure of two vehicles. The first was located in the Town of Mansfield and the second in the City of Brockton.”

While police said no charges have been filed in direct connection with the shooting, an 18-year-old Brockton man has been arrested by State Police for possession of a gun.

“Investigators believe both incidents are related,” police said.

A police spokesperson confirmed the identity of the 18-year-old arrested on firearms charges in Brockton as Anthony Lopes.

Lopes is charged in Brockton District Court with carrying a loaded gun without a license and possession of a large capacity feeding device. He was ordered held Wednesday on $25,000 bail, court records show.

Witnesses reported that the suspects in the shooting fled the scene in a black SUV before officers arrived, according to Easton police.

State Police arrested Lopes late Tuesday afternoon, according to court filings. State Police said following the shooting in Easton, a trooper “became aware” that a black Infinity SUV had been abandoned in the area of the shooting and was told that “multiple males were seen” exiting the vehicle and leaving in another car.

According to an affidavit, the trooper determined that Lopes had been issued a citation in the abandoned SUV and that the 18-year-old had the same address in Brockton as the listed registered owner of the vehicle. The trooper alleged that he later observed Lopes in the area of Battles Farm Drive climbing into a white sedan, which drove off into another parking lot on the road.

While the trooper approached the stopped vehicle, Lopes allegedly got out and began to run before tripping and falling.

“While falling, I observed a black firearm fall from his torso area and land on the street,” the trooper wrote.

According to the police affidavit, troopers found the gun had one round in the chamber and “multiple more in a high-capacity magazine.”

An attorney for Lopes did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The 18-year-old will return to court on Feb. 14.

Easton police have not released the name of the girl who was shot.

“The investigation remains active and involves several law enforcement agencies,” the department said Wednesday.
