An investigation is underway after a woman died Tuesday evening aboard an Air France flight to Boston from Paris, State police said.
State troopers assigned to the Crime Scene Services Section and the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit responded to the scene.
State police identified the deceased as Barbara Dipoli, 53, of Topeka, Kan. Preliminary information suggests that Dipoli’s “unattended” death resulted from a medical episode during the flight, Trooper James D. DeAngelis said in a press release.
Investigators are awaiting the official cause and manner of Dipoli’s death from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the press release said.
Air France expressed its regrets and condolences in a statement shared to NBC News.
“Despite the assistance of a doctor on board, the customer couldn’t be rescued,” the statement said.
