A 71-year-old Worcester man died Friday afternoon after being hit by a vehicle while crossing the street after exiting a bus, police said.
A preliminary investigation by the Worcester Police’s Crash Reconstruction Unit suggested that the man exited a bus at 265 Lake Ave. on Jan. 10 and started crossing the street. A vehicle drove down Lake Avenue and its operator did not see the man crossing, according to a statement from the Worcester Police Department.
The driver stayed on the scene, according to the statement.
Police responded to the incident at approximately 5:15 p.m. and found the man suffering from serious injuries. A nurse at the scene provided medical assistance to the man, the statement said. The man was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. He has yet to be identified by authorities.
The Worcester Police’s Crash Reconstruction Unit is still undergoing its investigation and could not reveal any more details, the office told Boston.com.
