A 12-year-old boy died after a skiing incident at a ski resort in North Conway, New Hampshire on New Year’s Eve, officials said.
First responders arrived at Cranmore Mountain Resort in North Conway around 10:44 a.m. Tuesday to reports of the injured boy, Conway Chief of Police Christopher Mattei said in a statement on Thursday.
The 12-year-old appeared to have struck a tree while skiing the Bandit Trail, police said, which is an intermediate level trail. The boy was unconscious, and he was receiving CPR, Mattei said.
The Cranmore Mountain Ski Parol had transported the boy to the base of the mountain, where he was then transferred to MaineHealth Memorial Hospital, where he died, police said.
“On behalf of the Conway Police Department, and all the first responders who assisted, I would like to offer my deepest condolences to the family members of the 12 year old boy,” Mattei said.
In a statement, the ski resort extended similar sentiments.
“On behalf of Cranmore Mountain Resort, our thoughts and prayers go out to the family,” a Cranmore spokesperson said. “The entire Cranmore family grieves this tragic loss.”
