Two people were killed and a third seriously injured in a single-car crash in Raynham on Monday night, officials said.
Emergency crews were alerted to the crash on East Britannia Street near Thrasher Street around 9:25 p.m., Raynham Police Chief David LaPlante and Fire Chief Bryan LaCivita said in a news release. First responders arrived at the scene to find a 2017 Hyundai Elantra leaning against a tree, and a preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle went airborne before striking the tree, according to LaPlante and LaCivita.
Authorities said the driver, Averi Costa-Burton, 26, of Fall River, was ejected from the car. Emergency crews rushed him to Morton Hospital in Taunton, where he was pronounced dead.
Two other passengers remained in the vehicle, according to the release. Dorryn Robinson, 28, of New Bedford, was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 25-year-old Fall River man, who was sitting in the back seat, was flown to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence with life-threatening injuries.
The Raynham Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Team and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the crash, LaPlante and LaCivita said.
