A three-alarm fire broke out in a $13 million home in Brookline on Thursday, leaving all five residents unscathed but bringing down part of the roof, according to officials.
The Brookline Fire Department responded to the single-family home at 90 Sargent Road around 10:40 a.m. following reports of smoke coming from the attic, fire chief John F. Sullivan explained in a news release.
Fire crews arrived to find heavy smoke billowing from the L-shaped, three-story home and struck a second alarm, according to Sullivan.
“Companies began attacking the fire from inside the home but then transitioned to a defensive attack from outside as conditions deteriorated and a portion of the home’s roof collapsed,” the news release stated. “A third alarm was struck at about 11 a.m. to bring additional resources to the scene.”
Firefighters from Boston, Cambridge, and Newton provided mutual aid, and companies worked to extinguish the fire for more than two hours, Sullivan said. Fire crews managed to knock down most of the heavy fire by about 12:30 p.m., the Brookline Fire Department said in a Facebook update.
All five residents evacuated the burning home safely, and there were no reported injuries. Sullivan said the fire’s cause remains under investigation, but fire officials do not believe it was suspicious.
Town property records indicate the six-bedroom home, valued at more than $13 million, was built in 1928 and spans about 13,000 square feet.
