A man died in a motor vehicle crash on Route 3 southbound in Duxbury early Monday morning, officials said.
A 911 call reporting a motor vehicle crash came in at 4:52 a.m. At the scene, Duxbury Engine 2, which responded due to the on-duty shift being at another emergency call, found a vehicle that was heavily damaged from colliding with a guardrail.
“The driver was ejected from the vehicle and, tragically, did not survive the accident,” said Duxbury Deputy Fire Chief Brian Monahan in a release shared with Boston.com.
There were no other passengers in the car, and no other vehicles were involved. The man who died was in his 50s, but further information about him was not available.
Route 3 southbound was shut down for several hours while crews secured and cleared the scene.
“The highway is back open,” Duxbury Fire Chief Rob Reardon wrote in an email to Boston.com.
The Massachusetts State Police are investigating the crash.
