Several members of a film crew fell through thin ice and ended up in a pond in Acton on Monday while shooting a zombie movie in the town’s Nara Park.
One member of the crew fell out of the kayak they were in, and four other members went into the water to help rescue them, according to a statement Acton Fire Chief Anita Arnum shared with Boston.com.
Acton Fire and Acton Police were dispatched to the park Monday around 2:50 p.m., she said, “after receiving 911 calls that multiple people had fallen through the ice.” The Westford Fire Department provided mutual aid ambulance service.
Upon arrival, some of the crew members had already emerged from the pond, and the others also walked out on their own. Of the five people, which included three 23-year-old men, a 23-year-old woman, and a 30-year-old man, four were taken to local hospitals for cold exposure and treatment.
“They are all expected to fully recover,” Arnum said.
She advised residents to avoid ice that isn’t fully frozen.
“Icy waterways in Acton are, at this time, absolutely not safe for any human activities including walking, skating, fishing,” Arnum said.
