Additional indictments related to unauthorized issuance of prescriptions and unauthorized use of a patient’s credit card have been announced against a Boston dental clinic manager who was indicted in May for a slate of charges, including unlicensed practice of dentistry and Medicaid false claims.
The charges brought in May against Fritz Gabriel, 69, were for practicing dentistry without a license and for billing Medicaid for procedures that were never performed. He also received one count of larceny and one count of assault and battery, and the clinic he managed, Forest Hills Dental in Dorchester, was charged with one count each of Medicaid false claims and larceny.
Attorney General Andrea Campell’s office announced Monday that Gabriel, of Milton, has been indicted with one count of unlawful use of a registration number and one count of fraudulent use of a credit card.
Falsely representing himself as a licensed dentist, Gabriel issued prescriptions — including ones for controlled substances such as Percocet and hydrocodone — using another dentist’s registration number and credentials without them knowing, officials said.
The AGO also alleges that Gabriel helped a patient open a credit card and then began to use it without their knowledge, making more than $6,000 in unauthorized purchases.
The May 2024 charges are still pending in Suffolk County Superior Court.
Gabriel’s charges are part of an effort by the AGO to “hold accountable those who misuse roles of authority or public trust, including within the dental industry and through abuse of the state’s Medicaid program, MassHealth,” the office said in a release shared with Boston.com.
The initiative has brought charges against a Falmouth dentist, Marcus Swann, 49, and his dental practice in March, and a Hopkinton dentist, Meenakshy Yegneswaran, 55, and her dental Worcester practice in June.
Swann and his practice were each charged with four counts of Medicaid false claims and larceny over $1,200. Yegneswaran was indicted in a $2 million Medicaid fraud and larceny scheme.
