The Friends Of The Cape Cod National Seashore are asking for the public’s help restoring access to a popular beach in 2025.

In a statement, the organization asked the public for assistance in funding the replacement of the beach-access stairs to Marconi Beach, which a three-day nor’easter destroyed in September.

“Without financial assistance from Seashore supporters, there will be no access to Marconi Beach in 2025,” read part of the statement.

The group aims to raise the $125,000 necessary to replace the stairs by February 2025. This will allow beach access beginning in June of next year while a more permanent solution is developed.

The storm that destroyed the stairs consumed 28 feet of land on the beach, according to the statement, including about eight feet where the stairs were located. Therefore, the public cannot currently access the beach.

The beach usually draws about 250,000 visitors annually. It’s just one part of the economic boom of $540 million that’s contributed to the Cape’s economy by visitors each year.

“The Seashore does not have the discretionary funds available to act quickly on this access challenge. The Friends do not have the necessary funds available to fully fund the project,” read part of the statement.
