Police responded to a crash involving a child pedestrian who suffered “serious injuries” in Lowell on Thursday, officials say.
At around 4 p.m., Lowell Police were called to the intersection of West Third and Coburn streets for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian, according to a statement from the Lowell Police Department.
At the scene, authorities said, officers found a 2-year-old girl who was seriously injured lying in the street.
“The child was transported to a Boston-area hospital for treatment of injuries that appear to be life-threatening,” according to the statement.
Police said the operator of the motor vehicle that struck the child remained on the scene and is cooperating with police.
The crash continues to be investigated by the Lowell Police Department.
