Boston toy drive is desperate for donations
Action for Boston Community Development has roughly 6,500 requests from families in need, but only has enough toys to distribute to about a third of them.
A Boston nonprofit is asking for more donations for its annual toy drive as it struggles to meet the demand from families this year.

“This year we got a lot of requests, because people are more in need,” ABCD President and CEO Sharon Scott-Chandler told Boston.com. “Times are very difficult, and prices are high.”
The organization is attempting to address the shortage of gifts by using donations it received after the holidays last year, Scott-Chandler said.

But it is still not enough.
“We’re a little behind this year,” Scott-Chandler said. “We’re looking to get another few thousand toys.”
Scott-Chandler said the gifts help struggling families to “have a good holiday season.”
“This time of the year, when everyone else is celebrating with gifts, they can’t afford toys,” Scott-Chandler said. “It really allows them to participate and celebrate, bring some joy.”
Donors can fill out an online form and will be contacted to schedule a donation drop-off and other logistics. The organization also accepts cash donations.
