Man arrested after shots fired in South End road rage incident

Officers said they saw a firearm inside the suspect's vehicle and called detectives in to respond to the scene.

A Boston man is facing firearm charges in connection to a road rage incident in the South End on Friday, authorities said.

At 10:37 p.m., officers arrested Jair Furtado, 40, after responding to the area of 145 East Berkeley Street for a report of shots fired, according to a statement from police.

Boston Police Operations told police that a road rage incident had taken place and a shot was fired.

Upon arrival, officers said they saw two vehicles stopped at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and East Berkeley Street. Officers soon took the driver of one of the vehicles into custody, they said.

Officers said they saw a firearm inside the vehicle and called detectives in to respond to the scene. The firearm was later identified as a Springfield Hellcat with one round in the chamber and eight rounds in the magazine, police said.

Officers said they also found a box of ammunition and a holster inside the suspect’s vehicle.

Police said they were advised that the incident took place at Albany Street and East Berkeley Street, where an argument ensued and the suspect shot at the victim’s vehicle.

Furtado was arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, authorities said.

Furtado is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
