A woman suffered “severe injuries” from her own pit bull in Leominster, Massachusetts on Thursday, officials say.
Just before 2 p.m., Leominster Police and Fire departments responded to 752 Main St. for a report of a dog bite, according to a statement from police.
Authorities said the woman was attacked by her family’s 5-year-old pit bull named “Chunk,” who caused “severe injuries to her arms and hand.”
The woman’s husband had to “utilize immediate force to free his wife from the pit bull who had latched on to one of her arms,” police said.
The fire department gave the woman medical treatment.
Several police officers used catch poles to put the dog in an animal control van where it was taken to a local veterinarian, the statement said.
Leominster Fire took the female victim to UMass Worcester to treat her injuries.
