Boston City Councilor Tania Fernandes Anderson acknowledged reports Wednesday that she is being investigated by federal authorities, but did not share details and said she does not intend to resign.
The investigation was first reported Tuesday by The Boston Globe. Specifics of the investigation have not become public. City Hall received subpoenas from federal investigators, but no criminal charges have been filed.
Fernandes Anderson did not respond to a request for comment Tuesday. In a Facebook post Wednesday, she said she was unable to comment on the news and vowed to continue doing “the people’s work.”
Before Wednesday’s City Council meeting, Fernandes Anderson spoke to the media, including a Globe reporter.
“Why would you ask that? … I’m not thinking about quitting. I’m not thinking about stepping down. I’m not thinking about any of that — I’m thinking about the work and continuing,” she said after being asked if she was going to resign.
Fernandes Anderson was elected in 2021 to represent District 7, which consists of Roxbury, Dorchester, Fenway, and part of the South End.
She was recently found to have violated multiple state campaign finance law provisions over the past year. The Office of Campaign and Political Finance determined that Fernandes Anderson’s campaign committee took “appropriate remedial actions” and said that no further action was required from her.
