South Shore man charged after roommate, 80, dies during fight over Thanksgiving food

Police arrested Richard Lombardi, 65, on charges of manslaughter and assault and battery.

Police said the incident happened at 853 Main Street in Marshfield.

A Marshfield man has been arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter after he allegedly killed his 80-year-old roommate during a Thanksgiving cooking dispute, court records show.

Police apprehended Richard Lombardi, 65, the day before Thanksgiving, a statement of facts filed to Plymouth District Court said. Officers said they were dispatched to 853 Main Street around 4:07 p.m. after they received a 911 call reporting an “elderly male passed out.”

Court documents said they found a large pool of blood on the kitchen floor and Marshfield firefighters performing CPR on the victim, Frank Griswold.

According to officer statements, Lombardi said he was cooking and asked Griswold to stay out of the kitchen. Lombardi briefly left the kitchen and returned to find Griswold at the stove, he allegedly told officers. Then, he “approached Frank and threw him to the ground,” court documents said.

Police said they arrested Lombardi in the apartment.

Griswold was pronounced dead later that day, court records said. An autopsy report determined Griswold’s preliminary cause of death as blunt force trauma to his head and neck.

Lombardi faces charges of assault and battery on an elderly person and involuntary manslaughter. He was held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing, court documents show.

Representation for Lombardi did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
