A Southbridge woman died Wednesday after being involved in a crash with a UPS semi-trailer truck on I-84 in Willington, Connecticut.
Gennesse Marie Alicea, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to Connecticut State Police.
At around 3:15 p.m., Alicea was riding in the passenger seat of a 2015 Hyundai Elantra traveling eastbound in the right lane, near the UPS truck. The Hyundai was being driven by a Holland man, who tried to change lanes and merge into the center lane, according to an accident report released by police.
The Hyundai struck the truck on its driver-side rear bumper, causing the Hyundai to spin out into the center lane. The Hyundai was disabled, while the truck had minor damage. The Holland man was transported to Hartford Hospital with undisclosed injuries.
An investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact Trooper Michael Honeywell by calling 860-896-3200 or emailing [email protected].
