Five teenagers were injured Monday night in a single-car crash in Harwich when the vehicle went off the road and caught fire.
According to the Harwich Fire Department, the crash happened at 10:48 p.m. on Queen Anne Road near the power lines and Rebecca Road.
When Harwich police arrived at the scene, they found that the car had left the roadway, gone through a guardrail, and caught fire. Four of the car’s occupants were outside the vehicle, and one was still inside.
Harwich officers used a fire extinguisher to knock down the fire and removed the last person from the car, according to the fire department.
When firefighters later arrived, the car was engulfed in flames, and police officers were treating all five occupants.
First responders took three people to Cape Cod Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, and two were taken by medical helicopters to Mass General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
According to Harwich Police Lt. Aram Goshgarian, three of the occupants were 18 years old and two were 17 years old.
Firefighters extinguished the vehicle fire and a small brush fire.
The crash is under investigation by Harwich police.
