Boston police on Monday released the name of the 65-year-old woman who was stabbed to death in a Roxbury park over the weekend.
Celia Simmons of Boston died Saturday night, police said.
Police responded around 12:48 p.m. on Saturday for a report of a person stabbed at Ramsay Park. At the scene, they found Simmons suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead that night, according to police.
Simmons, known as CeCe, was living at the Woods Mullen Shelter for homeless women, her friends told The Boston Globe. She was disabled and used a cane to walk, the paper reported.
Her friends recalled her as a kind and caring person who touched the lives of those around her.
“Everyone’s really feeling it,” one woman, who lived with Simmons at the shelter, told the Globe. “The people at the shelter, the people at the park. They’re heartbroken. Everyone really does care.”
The investigation into her death is ongoing, and Boston police are asking anyone with information to contact homicide detectives at 617-343-4470 or the department’s tip line at 1-800-494-TIPS.
