Two hikers from Lawrence, Massachusetts, were rescued in Albany, New Hampshire, on Saturday after getting lost, with one suffering injuries, officials say.
At roughly 9 a.m., the hikers started their climb to the summit of Mount Chocorua and back.
But once they reached near the summit on steep ledges, the 20-year-old man and 18-year-old woman decided to return to their vehicle.
The siblings got off the trail and tried to “self-rescue,” but after “following the brook and falling several times, the older brother sustained a hip injury and had a difficult time walking,” according to a statement from authorities. They then called 911.
At 9 p.m., New Hampshire Fish and Game conservation officers received a call for the two lost hikers off the Brook Trail, authorities said.
Rescuers found the pair at 10:40 p.m. near the Brook Trail, on the opposite side of the brook from the trail, officers said.
Responders helped them down the trail, the statement said, returning to the parking area by 11:45 p.m.
