Police fatally shoot man during N.H. bed and breakfast standoff

The incident remains under investigation.

Police fatally shot a man at a bed and breakfast in Plymouth, New Hampshire, early Thursday morning, officials say.

At 2:40 p.m. Wednesday, Plymouth officers responded to the area after receiving a “disturbance call” from the Federal House Inn, located at 27 Route 25, according to a statement from the state Attorney General’s Office. Upon arrival, the officers heard sounds consistent with gunshots coming from inside, and the man then barricaded himself in the inn.

The New Hampshire State Police Crisis Negotiation Team and SWAT Unit also responded, and over several hours, law enforcement communicated with the man who was armed with a rifle, authorities said.

At 12:49 a.m., the SWAT Unit radioed that they had fired upon the man, the statement said. Following the shooting, the individual was found with apparent gunshot wounds near a first-floor doorway.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the deceased individual is being withheld pending family notification, and an autopsy was scheduled by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for Thursday, authorities said. The names of the six members of the New Hampshire State Police SWAT Unit who discharged firearms are being withheld until the conclusion of formal interviews.

There are no known physical injuries to any law enforcement officers, the statement said.
