The MBTA has fired two more employees amid its investigation into allegations that workers at Cabot Yard were misusing T resources and working on private vehicles while on the clock.
The T confirmed the additional firings Thursday, bringing the total number of terminated employees to six as the investigation continues. Seven employees remain on administrative leave from the South Boston facility, which is used to store and maintain Red Line vehicles.
The T announced last month 10 of its employees were on leave in connection with the investigation into potential employee misconduct.
Details about the allegations and what exactly prompted the probe remain scant; General Manager Phil Eng told The Boston Globe last month MBTA Transit Police were looking into the “potential of criminal activity.”
The T confirmed last week four employees “directly involved” in the alleged misconduct had been terminated.
“We are taking these allegations very seriously, as we have an obligation to the public we serve and to our workforce to ensure that every employee meets the highest standards of conduct,” Eng said in a statement at the time.
The MBTA also said it is working with its management teams to increase site visits and maintain a visible presence across its locations.
“As a public agency, it is our responsibility to be good stewards of public resources and to leverage all possible resources to deliver the best service for our riders,” Eng said last week. “We will continue to take all necessary actions to ensure accountability based on the findings of the investigation and prevent a situation like this from happening again.”
