Carroll, who died at the age of 56, joined the Malden Police Department in 2000 after serving in the United States Marine Corps, according to the department. He became a sergeant in 2014 and a lieutenant in 2023.
“Scott had an amazing ability to talk to and help people,” his obituary reads. “It was the part of the job he loved most.”
Carroll graduated from Everett High School in 1986 and earned a bachelor’s degree from Western New England University and a master’s degree from the University of Lowell, according to the obituary.
Carroll also volunteered with the Special Olympics.
“In lieu of flowers, donations in Scott’s memory may be made to the Special Olympics,” his obituary says.
Scott’s passing left a “profound impact” on the department, the department’s post read.
“As blue lights shone bright, we stood united, a powerful display of support and solidarity, as we honored Lieutenant Scott Carroll’s family, friends, and loved ones,” the department wrote. “May his eternal rest be a source of inspiration, motivating us to continue honoring his life and dedication to serving with pride, both on and off duty.”
Family and friends are invited to a service at the Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., in Malden on Friday, Nov. 8, at 10 a.m.
