Officials: Man in custody, will face charges following Hazmat response in Everett

Alexander Yaksic, 33, of Everett was arrested early Tuesday morning on a federal probation warrant.

A 33-year-old man is in custody and will be charged with “numerous” drug-related offenses after a Hazmat response was triggered Monday in Everett.

Alexander Yaksic, of Everett, was arrested early Tuesday morning on a federal probation warrant, the city and Everett Police Department said in a joint statement

State Hazmat technicians responded Monday afternoon to 51 Glendhill Ave. in response to what officials said were “reports of an individual disposing of chemicals related to the manufacturing of illicit narcotics at multiple locations around the city.”

On Tuesday, city and law enforcement officials said Yaksic’s arrest was the culmination of several days of investigation, starting on Oct. 30, when police responded to the report of a car crash on Wilbur Street. At the scene, the officers found an unknown substance, which was sent to a lab for analysis.

“The incident did not pose a threat to the public and Everett PD determined that there were no arrestable offenses at that time,” officials said.

On Sunday and Monday, police received reports that someone was discarding unknown substances at several locations around the city. The fire department and other city personnel responded in protective gear to clean up the substance.

“During the morning of November 4, the Inspectional Services Department also located a discarded container on Sycamore Street,” the city said. “A subsequent investigation led Everett Police to investigate the premises of 51 Gledhill Avenue in Everett.”

There, with the cooperation of the homeowner, police found a lab that contained the ingredients for producing ecstasy, officials said. As part of the Hazmat response to the home, samples of the substances in the lab were taken for testing.

Yaksic was arrested early Tuesday morning.

Officials did not detail the charges he is facing but said he is “the suspect related to an incident at 51 Gledhill Avenue and at other locations in the City of Everett.”

According to officials, the city is continuing to oversee cleanup at 51 Gledhill Avenue.

“There remains no threat to public safety,” the city said.
