A Massachusetts man is facing drunk driving charges in New Hampshire after he allegedly struck and killed a bear on Sunday evening.
Timothy Harrigan, 30, of Leominster is charged with driving under the influence aggravated, driving under the influence, and an open container violation, according to police in Hollis, New Hampshire.
Police said officers responded around 6:15 p.m. on Sunday to Broad Street near Pine Hill Road for a report of a bear being struck by a vehicle. The bear was found dead at the scene.
“In speaking with Harrigan, officers detected signs of impairment and investigated further,” police said.
Harrigan was taken into custody. Police said at the time of the crash he had a blood alcohol level of .17, more than double the statutory limit.
Harrigan was released on bail and will return for his arraignment in the 9th Circuit Court in Nashua.
Police said the person Harrigan arranged to pick him up from the station, a Nashua woman, was found to be driving with a suspended license and suspended registrations. She was issued a summons for those violations.
