Hazmat response in Everett, officials say someone was reported dumping narcotics waste around city

“Response coordination activities between Everett Police and Fire and state response teams are likely to continue in the area into the evening."

State and local fire officials are investigating the presence of potentially hazardous materials in Everett after the city received reports of someone disposing of chemicals related to the manufacturing of narcotics, officials said.

State Hazmat technicians and other personnel responded to assist Everett first responders with the “unknown and potentially hazardous chemicals in a residence,” according to the state’s Department of Fire Services.

“They will attempt to identify these substances and, if necessary, mitigate the associated risks,” a department spokesperson said in a statement.

City officials said in a statement around 1 p.m. that the state hazmat team was in protective gear at 51 Glendhill Ave. to search the area. The response was to follow up on “reports of an individual disposing of chemicals related to the manufacturing of illicit narcotics at multiple locations around the city,” the city said.

The fire department said there was no threat to the public but asked that people avoid the area as work continued at the scene.

Just after 6 p.m., the city said increased official activity in the area was not due to elevated risk to the public.

“Response coordination activities between Everett Police and Fire and state response teams are likely to continue in the area into the evening,” the city said.
