Second person arrested in connection to Watertown stabbing

Omari Cassell, 18, of Newton, turned himself in to Watertown Police on Friday.

A second person has been arrested in connection to a Watertown stabbing last month that investigators say involved three masked suspects.

Omari Cassell, 18, of Newton, turned himself in to the Watertown Police Department on Friday, according to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan’s office.

He is expected to be arraigned Monday in Waltham District Court on charges of assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and conspiracy.

On Oct. 22, around 5:15 p.m., police responded to several 911 calls about a disturbance at a bus stop near Mt. Auburn and Boylston streets. Upon arrival, officers spoke with a man who had suffered injuries to his face and head as well as two lacerations to his back that appeared to be stab wounds.

The victim told police that he had been waiting for the bus when he noticed a vehicle pass by several times before stopping around the corner. Three men wearing masks allegedly got out of the vehicle, asked the man where he was from, and then began to punch and kick him, according to officials.

One of the masked assailants allegedly stabbed the victim twice in the back with a knife during the assault, according to Ryan’s office. Two minutes later, officials said all three masked men fled to their car and drove away.

The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated and released.

Michael McGhee, 19, of Boston, was the first person to be charged in connection to the alleged stabbing. McGhee was arraigned on Oct. 25 and was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Nov. 6.

Investigators asked that anyone with information about the case contact Watertown police at 617-972-6500.
