A section of the Red Line will shut down for six days starting Tuesday as part of the MBTA’s track improvement plan to address speed restrictions.
Shuttle buses will replace Red Line service between Broadway and North Quincy stations from Nov. 5 to Nov. 10, with shuttles extending to Ashmont next weekend. During this time, the Commuter Rail will be fare-free between Braintree and South Station.

More track work will shut down another section of the Red Line later this month. From Nov. 18 to Nov. 24, shuttle buses will replace service between Harvard and Broadway stations while employees do track work in that section. However, shuttles will not directly service Park Street or Downtown Crossing. Instead, riders should board shuttles at Haymarket or State. During this closure, Commuter Rail trains will be fare-free between Porter Square and North Station and Braintree and South Station.
Work at impacted stations will include track work, lighting repairs, painting, and deep cleaning.
