Man struck and killed by train in Everett, canceling commuter rail service
The incident canceled trains on the Newburyport and Rockport lines during peak commuting hours Tuesday evening.
A man was struck and killed by a train in Everett on Tuesday evening. The incident caused the MBTA to cancel commuter rail service on the Newburyport and Rockport lines during peak commuting hours.
According to MBTA Transit Police, the adult man intentionally placed himself on the right of way in the vicinity of the Costco in Everett and was struck by a commuter rail train. The man was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.
“On behalf of the (Transit Police Department) and the entire MBTA organization, we express our most sincere condolences to the decedent’s family and friends,” police said in a statement.

According to the MBTA Commuter Rail’s X account, the disruptions began with the Rockport Line’s 5:05 p.m. train leaving North Station, which was terminated at Chelsea. The Newburyport Line’s 5:35 p.m. train was canceled shortly after.
Train service continued to be impacted on both lines until around 9 p.m., but delays may have persisted.
According to Keolis, service on both lines had returned to normal as of Wednesday morning.
