Airport road closed when SUV goes up in flames at Logan

State Police shut down the upper roadway near Terminal B for an hour on Monday morning after an SUV caught on fire.

An SUV caught fire at Logan International Airport on Monday, prompting police to temporarily shut down part of the roadway, authorities said.

Massachusetts State Police responded near the Terminal B upper roadway just after 10 a.m., the agency said. Police said troopers shut down the roadway for around an hour.

Footage from WCVB shows firefighters dousing the car in water.

According to State Police, the car was a 2019 Kia SUV driven by an unidentified 40-year-old man. No one was injured during the fire, police said. MassPort Fire extinguished the flames, the statement said. It is unclear what initially caused the car to catch fire.

Logan Airport issued a passenger advisory during the fire, asking travelers to “give extra time” to get to Terminal B.

Police said they cleared the scene by 11 a.m. MassPort did not immediately respond to multiple requests for a statement.

While there has been a smoky smell and haze over Boston on Monday, this small fire is not the cause. Several wildfires broke out in eastern Massachusetts over the weekend, causing the strong fire smell.
