An 11-year-old boy has raised over $6,700 for a local Walgreens pharmacist, whose store is set to close next month.
Aarav Khanna started a GoFundMe page with the goal of raising $5,000 to give to the man, affectionately known in the community as “Bob the Pharmacist.”
As of Monday, Aarav had raised $6,711 for Bob, who has worked at the Weston Walgreens for over two decades.
“He has supported all of us through numerous life events by ensuring that no one leaves without getting the medicine they need,” the fundraising page says. “He is so personable that he remembers everyone’s names.”
Community members gathered in Weston on Saturday to honor Robert Hesselberg, who is relocating to the Waltham location, and present him with the donations, according to CBS Boston.
“I’ve seen the amount of kindness and work he puts into his job,” Aarav told the station. A young girl also made a goodbye card for Hesselberg.
The closing is just one of 1,200 Walgreens stores that will shut its doors over the next three years.
The Weston Walgreens is scheduled to permanently close on Nov. 14, according to the store’s website.
“It’s humbling. I can’t believe it,” Hesselberg told the news station. “I’m very grateful for all this.”
