Authorities rescued a dog that got away from its owner while chasing geese in a lake in Wellesley on Saturday, officials say.
At 8:18 a.m., Wellesley police and fire personnel were called to Lake Waban for a report of a person and dog in the water, according to a statement from the police department.
The owner had gone into the water to retrieve their Rottweiler, which was struggling to swim, but had to return to land because of the cold temperature and the far distance the dog had traveled from shore, the statement said.
Two Wellesley College boats rescued the dog and guided it back to shore, officials said, and a police drone located and tracked the dog during the rescue mission.
