A man in his 50s died Saturday after suffering a medical emergency while hiking in Albany, New Hampshire, authorities announced.
The 58-year-old from Montreal was nearly 2 miles from the trailhead of the Piper Trail on Mt. Chocorua when the incident took place around 11:30 a.m., according to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department. His family members and hikers passing by with medical experience tried to provide aid.
Conservation officers, members of the Conway Fire Department, the U.S. Forest Service, Lakes Region Search and Rescue, and the Carroll County Sheriff’s office responded to the call for help.
Officials said the man lost consciousness several times and that CPR was administered for over an hour. Those life-saving efforts were ultimately unsuccessful.
The man’s name is being withheld by authorities while his family is notified of his death, according to officials.
