A Shrewsbury man working as a masseur at a spa in Auburn has been accused of indecently assaulting a customer, according to authorities.
Guangyo Gao, 22, pleaded not guilty to the charge of indecent assault and battery of a person over 14, according to court records.
Auburn police said in a statement that they responded to multiple 911 calls on Oct. 6 for a disturbance at Health Spa at 385 Southbridge St. A woman in her early 30s was one of the callers and told officers that she paid for a massage and the masseur, later identified as Gao, forced her to touch him inappropriately.
“Due to the sensitive nature of the facts discovered by the responding officers, specific details are being withheld from this post,” police said.
According to the police, the owner of the business, Zhu Relaxation DBA Health Spa, had its certificate renewed in April 2024. Police said the department has been communicating with the Department of Licensure for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for “potential administrative action.”
Gao was arrested on Oct. 6 and arraigned on Oct. 7 in Worcester District Court. He will return for a hearing Nov. 25. An attorney for the 22-year-old did not immediately return a request for comment.
