The “Pooch Primaries” in the race to elect the Seaport’s first dog mayor have begun.
The top five dogs from a pool of 175 have been selected. From Oct. 15-30, voters will decide which pet — Lady, Macie, Rhubarb, Aspen, or Bennett — is the best fit to serve the neighborhood. The winner will be announced on Nov. 1.
The elected dog mayor will receive a long list of perks, including a gift basket of prizes, complimentary animal shampoo every 12 weeks throughout their term, two free doggie dessert cups per month, and a “skip the line” pass to Cisco Brewers and the Holiday Market.
In March, the dog mayor will be celebrated at the Seaport’s first InDOGuration revealing the mayor’s portrait and the ceremonial mayor’s house, Barksworth Manor.
The canine candidates will campaign for votes at Polkadog Seaport. Guests can stop by to meet Lady and Macie on Oct. 8 and can meet Rhu, Aspen, and Bennett on Oct. 11.

Lady, 18 months, was born and raised in the Seaport and “knows the community inside and out.” The golden doodle is a daily visitor of the Sea Green Dog Run and a “sock-stealing master.”
“She’s dedicated to making sure every dog and human in Seaport has the same pawsitive experience she’s had,” Lady’s profile reads. “Lady has her paw on the pulse of what makes Seaport the best place to be.”

Macie, 1, is a Seaport native and “golden girl.” The golden retriever “loves everyone she meets” and “isn’t shy about showing it.” She loves running on the beach and exploring the neighborhood.
“Macie’s love for people, dogs, and everything Seaport makes her the perfect candidate to be the Dog Mayor,” her bio says.

Rhubarb, affectionately known as “Rhu,” is a maltipoo with “fearless spirit,” “goofy charm,” and “Big Dog Energy.” Rhu, 2, was adopted after her siblings found homes quickly, her owner spotting her under a “Black Friday Sale” banner.
“From bargain bin to mayoral win, Rhu knows how to turn a tail-wagging underdog story into a victory lap,” Rhu’s page says.

Aspen, 5, is affectionately called “Clifford” and was double the size of his mini doodle littermates. Aspen is dedicated to raising funds for the Boston Children’s Hospital toy drive and donating to animal shelters.
“Aspen is all about kindness, love, and community — and he’s here to make Seaport an even brighter place!” Aspen’s bio says.

Bennett, 9 months, is an “affectionate” and “fun-loving” golden retriever who loves watching sports. Bennett is the “Couch Potato King” but also loves a walk along the Harborwalk.
“Bennett’s friendly nature and endless enthusiasm for life make him the perfect ambassador for Seaport, bringing people together one wag at a time,” Bennett’s profile says.
