Man arrested, 2 workers injured in crash on Mass. turnpike in Boston

Two roadway workers were “seriously injured” in a crash on 1-90 in Boston Saturday morning, authorities said. 

Massachusetts State Police said Pedro Campos, 32, was allegedly driving drunk when he drove his Nissan Pathfinder into a work zone and struck two workers on the Beacon Street Overpass.

Police responded to the “serious crash” around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, State Police said in a statement. The left lane of I-90 was open for cars, while the center and right lanes were shut down for construction, police said. When first responders arrived at the crash, they said, they found Campos’s car in the work zone, crashed into an elevated lift that had two workers on board. 

Boston EMS took the two workers to local hospitals while MSP shut down all westbound lanes, police said. According to the statement, authorities cleared the scene around 4 a.m.

MSP arrested Campos, of Wellesley Hills, for operating under the influence and negligent operation, the statement said. Police said he will be arraigned at Brighton District Court on Monday.
