Maine State Police are investigating an apparent double homicide in Bath, the agency said on Sunday.
After they received reports of a shooting, police responded to 10 Crawford Drive around 7 a.m. on Oct. 6, State Police said in a statement. Local law enforcement said they found two women with gunshot wounds. First responders pronounced both women dead at the scene, police said.
Bath police instituted a shelter-in-place order for the community as they investigated the incident, but lifted it an hour later, social media posts said.
Initial reports suggested the suspect fled the scene after the shooting, the statement said. However, the statement said, Maine police later located the suspect inside 10 Crawford Drive, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police identified all three of the deceased. The two women were Lisa Bailey, 58, and her daughter, Jennifer Bailey, 32, according to the statement. Police said the suspect is 66-year-old Michael Bailey, Lisa’s husband and Jennifer’s father.
Both the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit and the Bath Police Department are investigating the incident, the statement said. They urged anyone with information to contact Major Crimes at 207-624-7143 or Bath police at 207-443-8339.
