A major water main break flooded a Roxbury street and appeared to seriously damage at least one vehicle and the roadway Tuesday morning.
The break occurred on Tremont Street near Massachusetts Avenue, the Boston Water and Sewage commission said. A 20-inch main was the source of the flooding, but “no services or hydrants” were affected. The BWSC warned of “significant road damage.”
The Boston Fire Department was called to the scene in Roxbury at 5:15 a.m., and crews stayed there until 6:05 a.m., a spokesperson said.
Traffic was blocked at the time. The current state of the roadway is unclear, but a BPD spokesperson said around 9:30 a.m. that the water had subsided and that the roads should be open.
Images captured by NBC10 Boston show the extent of the flooding on Tremont Street between Lenox and Northampton streets. One vehicle can be seen partially sunken into the road.
