A 27-year-old man is facing assault charges in the stabbing of his parents in their Reading home early Tuesday morning, according to authorities.
Christian Alexander of Reading is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and armed assault with intent to murder on a person over 60, Reading police said in a statement. He pleaded not guilty to the charges against him in Woburn District Court on Tuesday, according to court filings.
Police responded to the report of the stabbing at a home on Bond Street around 12:13 a.m. on Tuesday where they found a man and woman suffering from serious injuries. The victims were taken to a local hospital for treatment, and police said investigators determined that the suspect, identified as Alexander, had run from the scene.
He was found and arrested around 3 a.m. with the assistance of police in North Reading, Wilmington, and Woburn, according to Reading police.
According to the police report filed with the court, Alexander’s father was cut with a razor blade on his neck and wrist, while his mother was cut on the chest. They told responding officers that their son attacked them and fled the scene.
Police said that Alexander told the officers arresting him, “I just had a psycho attack I didn’t mean it” and asked if “everyone at the house” was “okay,” according to court records. Later, he allegedly said, “I just tried to kill my [expletive] parents.”
Alexander’s mother told NBC10 Boston that her son suffers from mental health and substance use issues.
The 27-year-old was ordered held and will return to court on Friday for a detention hearing. The attorney representing him did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
