Authorities responded to a “serious” car crash on Memorial Drive on Monday night, the Cambridge Police Department said.
The crash, which happened around 5:45 p.m., involved a car and a cyclist, the department said in a statement.
Massachusetts State Police also responded to the crash and said they are investigating the incident. “Due to the severity” of the bicyclist’s injuries, multiple departments are involved in the investigation, including crime scene workers and detectives, State Police said.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and State Police said they and Cambridge police temporarily shut down Memorial Drive Monday evening to process the scene.
Photos from the crash reported by WCVB5 show a bicycle that appears to be very damaged lying on the street, with debris scattered across the road.
State Police did not comment on the cyclist’s condition, or if the driver is cooperating with law enforcement.
