An Easton man was arrested after a Brockton middle school student was sexually assaulted walking home last week was arrested Saturday, police said.
Markenson Beuge, 21, is accused of assaulting the girl, who is a student at West Middle School in Brockton, on Tuesday last week. Brockton said the pair briefly struggled before the student was able to flee to her home.
A spokesperson for Brockton police said that school police searched a home on Cherry Street in Brockton on Friday night. Beuge was then found in Easton and taken into custody, police said.
The Brockton Enterprise reported that Beuge was arrested by school police at a Wendy’s restaurant in Easton where he works.
“Thanks to Brockton Detectives for helping the School Police in their investigation,” the police’s statement said.
Police canvassed for the man last Wednesday after they were notified about the incident, the department said. Interim Brockton Superintendent of Schools Priya Tahiliani said the school community was notified and told students “to remain vigilant and report anything they find concerning to a trusted adult.”
“We are working closely with the Brockton Police Department to support the student and family affected by this deeply concerning incident and will work with the police to help in identifying a suspect,” she said in a statement last week.
Beuge will face sexual assault charges in court this week.
