MBTA announces service disruptions for October

The Mattapan Line, Green Line, and Orange Line will be affected.

Mattapan Line, Green Line, and Orange Line riders can expect service changes in October, the MBTA announced Wednesday.

The service disruptions come as a result of signal work and track maintenance in an effort to alleviate speed restrictions and maintain “infrastructure and improve reliability across the system,” according to a statement from the MBTA.

Here is the schedule:

On the Mattapan Line

Mattapan Line service will be suspended between Mattapan and Ashmont on the following days and times. Free shuttle buses will be available and make all stops between Mattapan and Ashmont during the service disruption. The last Mattapan train is scheduled to leave at 1:18 a.m. 

  • From Sept. 22-26 from approximately 11:30 p.m. through the end of service each day.
  • From Sept. 30 through Oct. 3 from approximately 11:30 p.m. through the end of service each day.
  • On Oct. 4 from approximately 8:30 p.m. through the end of service.
  • The weekend of Oct. 5-6.

On the Green Line

Green Line D Branch service will be suspended on the following days and times. Free shuttle buses will be available between the stops facing the service disruptions.

  • From Oct. 5-6, between Kenmore and Newton Highlands. Fare gates will be open at Riverside and fares will not be charged on trolleys between Riverside and Newton Highlands. Riders do not need to tap to pay on these trolleys during these dates.
  • From Oct. 19-20, between Riverside and Brookline Hills. 

On the Orange Line

Orange Line service will be suspended on the following days and times. Free shuttle buses will be available between the stops facing the service disruptions as well as Copley on the Green Line.

  • From Oct. 28-Nov. 1, between Oak Grove and North Station. Riders can also take the Haverhill Commuter Rail Line for free service between Oak Grove, Malden Center, and North Station.
  • From Oct. 8-11 and Oct. 15-20, between Forest Hills and Back Bay. Riders can also take the Commuter Rail for free service between Forest Hills, Ruggles, Back Bay, and South Station.
  • From Oct. 12-14, between Forest Hills and North Station. The MBTA is increasing Green Line service during this time for riders who choose to take parallel Green Line service between North Station and Copley. Riders can also take the Commuter Rail for free service between Forest Hills, Ruggles, Back Bay, and South Station.
  • From Oct. 26-27, between Oak Grove and Ruggles. Free shuttle service will be available between Oak Grove and North Station, and between Ruggles and Back Bay. There will be no shuttle bus service between North Station and Back Bay. Fare gates will be open at Ruggles and Copley. Riders can also take the Commuter Rail for free service between South Station and Forest Hills as well as between Oak Grove and North Station.
