A woman and baby were shot in Dorchester Monday night, police say.
At about 11:39 p.m., officers responded to Stratton Street where they found a woman and a baby suffering from gunshot wounds, according to Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox.
“We are in the early stages of an investigation here, and so we are canvassing the area and doing everything we can to certainly find out more about this incident,” Cox said.
The woman and child were both taken to two different local hospitals to be treated, Cox said.
Authorities said the baby’s injuries are life-threatening and the woman’s are not serious.
The shooting occurred outside in a “driveway area,” Cox said.
The shooter fled the scene and no arrests have been made, according to police.
“This is a pretty heinous act in general,” Cox said to reporters at about 1 a.m. Tuesday. “Pretty cowardly.”
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact 617-343-4470.
