A cellphone that was charging exploded and caught a bed on fire at a home in Topsfield on Saturday, officials say.

The residents were asked to evacuate the house, and the Topsfield fire and police departments were dispatched, according to a statement from the fire department.

Firefighters removed the burning bedding from the house and ventilated the residence, the department said.

One of the residents suffered a minor burn, authorities said, and within 45 minutes, all personnel were cleared of the scene.

The damage to the property is estimated to be $5,000, according to the statement.

The Topsfield Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal’s Office continue to investigate the fire.
