A Dorchester man who had previously pleaded guilty to numerous human trafficking charges is being held pending a dangerousness hearing after allegedly assaulting a woman over the weekend, authorities say.
Anthony Dew, 42, pleaded guilty to numerous sex trafficking, assault, and drug charges in 2016, and had his convictions vacated due to “ineffective counsel” a month after he was released from prison in 2023, according to a statement from the District Attorney’s Office.
At 2:12 a.m. on Sunday, police responded to a disturbance on Evelyn Street where they heard screaming upon arrival, officials said.
“Officers observed a woman in the walkway with her jeans pulled down to her ankles and a T-shirt soaked in what appeared to officers to be blood, pulled up,” the statement said. “Officers observed the victim’s face to be covered in blood and the victim was spitting up blood clots.”
Officers said the victim screamed, “he raped me” as she pointed to an apartment where Dew lived.
Dew beat her as she “went in and out” of consciousness, the woman told police.
The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment for the injuries she suffered from the assault, including “swelling and bruising to her mouth, jaw, and both her eyes,” the statement said.
Dew, who had several scratches on his hand and face, was “verbally combative” with officers, the statement said, when he arrived as first responders were processing the scene.
Officers placed Dew under arrest, the office said. He was charged in Dorchester BMC with one count of aggravated rape and ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing Friday.
“This was a terrible, violent attack, and one likely to have lasting emotional and physical impacts on the victim,” Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden said in the statement. “We will do everything we can to assist her now and as the case moves forward.”
