Bourne first responders rescued a man Monday who reportedly told them he had been stuck in a marsh for two days.
According to a statement from the Bourne Police Department, at around 1:27 p.m., Bourne police and fire were dispatched to a marsh off Vineyard Circle for a report of a person on foot stuck in the mud. Police officers and paramedics found a 41-year-old man in thick brush in an area that is not typically traveled.
The man was behind a residential house at the end of a cul-de-sac that leads to Bass Creek, a marshland between two neighborhoods and Sagamore Beach.
The first responders transported him to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
“Bourne Police is unable to confirm how long the person was in the marsh,” the statement said.
A next-door neighbor told Boston 25 News she was puzzled about how the man got trapped there.
“He was moaning, saying, ‘Help me. Help me,’ so she called the rescuers,” Roseanna Nikolaidis said. “It took about 20 minutes, he was more in the bushes. They had to wedge him out. They kept shaking and moving everything was moving around there and they did a great job.”
The incident remains under investigation.
