A 35-year-old man will be arraigned Wednesday for the murder of a Lawrence woman who was found dead days after being reported missing.
Cristian Montero of Lawrence was arrested last week in connection with the death of Carol Flaz-Burgos, a 37-year-old mother of two, the Essex County District Attorney’s office said in a statement.
Flaz-Burgos was reported missing on Aug. 31 and her body was found Sept. 3 in a wooded area near Kenoza Lake in Haverhill.
Montero, who lived in the same building as Flaz-Burgos, was initially arraigned on a charge of witness intimidation in connection with the 37-year-old’s death. However, prosecutors said, a murder charge has also been filed against him following the results of an autopsy performed by the state medical examiner’s office.
Montero has been held without bail since his arrest, according to court filings.
Video footage from the apartment building where Montero and Flaz-Burgos lived captured him leaving the complex with a “wagon beach cart” that appeared to be filled with clothes, The Boston Globe reports. Prosecutors said data from the mother’s cell phone showed it moving away from the apartment building at the same time that Montero left with the cart.
Attorney information for Montero was not immediately available.
