Manchester-by-the-Sea police are asking for help from the public to locate a driver involved in a hit-and-run that resulted in a dog being struck and killed Tuesday night.
Police are asking residents who live on Ocean Street or the surrounding area on Summer Street to review camera footage of an older white Ford or Mercury station wagon between 8:10 and 8:30 p.m.
The owner, Mike Bisner, told CBS News Boston he was walking his 100-pound black dog Tuesday night when a white car barreled down Ocean Street, a local single-lane roadway that abuts the ocean. Bisner was carrying a flashlight, and his dog was wearing a blinking collar.
Bisner told CBS News that he waved to slow the car down but had to move out of the road. However, his dog Odin didn’t make it in time and was struck head-on at about 30 mph and dragged 50 feet under the car before it accelerated off.
Odin did not survive the crash.
“How they can live with themselves, I have no idea,” Bisner told CBS News.
Bisner could not be reached for additional comments on Thursday.
